Poems

Every once in a while there is a poem or even just a snippet of a poem that will plague my mind.  Here is where I will put them in an attempt to get them out of my mind and into someone else's.  For everyone knows that matter can neither be created nor destroyed so the poem must find someone else to accost.

A Dream Within a Dream

All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

-Edgar Allen Poe

Stopping by woods on a snowy evening

"...The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

once more into the fray
into the last good fight I'll ever know
live and die this day
live and die this day

      -Director of The Gray

If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking

"If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain."

-Emily Dickinson

Waterloo

They mourn, but smile at length;

And smiling, mourn;
The tree will wither long before it fall;
The hull drives on,
Though mast and sail be torn;
And thus, the heart will break,
Yet brokenly live on.

-Lord Byron, 1816

To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time

Old time is still a-flying:
And thi ssame flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying..."

Let America be America Again

"...I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery's scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I see-
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of might crush the weak..."

-Langston Hughes

Heart, We Will Forget Him

"Heart, we will forget him!
You and I, tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you're lagging.
I may remember him!"

-Emily Dickinson

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light..."

The Road Not Taken

"...Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the differnce."

-Robert Frost

If You Forget Me

you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you..."
